We all love our pumpkins this time of year; carving pumpkins, pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving and just about everything pumpkin scented! That is where most of us stop. We don't indulge into eating pumpkin foods for the health benefits, we don't normally buy skincare products with pumpkin in them. It is completely underrated.
Here is why:
Pumpkin's are a great anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. They also have more Vitamin A (beta carotene) than what you need (Your body takes the beta carotene and turns it into v. A). This is great for your skin, hair, nails and bones, as well a a natural anti-agent since it helps boost your collagen production! Pumpkins are great for overall beauty, why wouldn't you want to eat more from that alone!?!
Don't stop at the puree, the seeds have great benefits too! Use every part of your pumpkin when you buy it! Pumpkin seeds are a great source of zinc, which helps with hair growth and clearer skin! They help regulate sebum, which is great for oily skin! So for those of us that suffer with acne these are a great snack! They are also a great to snack on before bed for us anxious people. When you eat them, your body releases serotonin, helping calm your body down.
When you put pumpkin on your skin, it has just as many benefits as when you eat it! It is a natural occurring AHA which helps cell turnover to brighten your skin. Pumpkins have a small molecular structure allowing it to get deeper into your skin and make a difference in pigmentation and aging! These are all great reasons to want to include pumpkin's in your beauty and health routine this fall!
I bought one small pumpkin and out of it I made myself toasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin syrup for my coffee, pumpkin muffins and my own pumpkin face mask, and I still have enough left over to freeze and use to make two homemade pies if I want!!
Just because these are sweet doesn't mean you wont reap the benefits! Just be sure to try some healthier options for pumpkin intake too. However seeing as it is dessert season with the holidays too, I thought I would make myself some pumpkin goodies for my mornings!
This is the Pumpkin Syrup recipe I made, to put in my morning coffee:
These are the muffins I made, you obviously can make which ever recipe for muffins you want:

If anyone else is curious for Pumpkin skincare products (since making them yourself usually means refrigerating only for up to a week) here is a list on vogue!: https://www.vogue.com/article/pumpkin-skin-care-face-hair-body-oils-masks-arcona
I hope you all go out now and but yourself some pumpkins or pumpkin puree and start eating it!
Think of them as similar to butternut squash, you can cook both up together as a side dish!!
Enjoy Pumpkin Season!!
